LIN MANUEL MIRANDA, MANHATTAN TIMES
A blank page or an open space are invitations for my imagination to play. My work has emerged through theater, film, commercials, live-streaming, web content, podcasts, events, high school musicals, educational theater and teaching.
Directing is something that pursued me. I am a detail-oriented person who can also see the big picture. I love working with actors and creating an environment where we can explore freely and discover a piece together. I have directed theater off-off Broadway in New York and regionally. I have directed films, PSA's, student productions and production managed large events.
My writing process is the place where I work out ideas, voices, and a variety of points of view. Themes of connection thread their way through my work. I have had three plays produced in New York City including Better Left Unsaid which was the first ever livestreamed play.
I also use my writing skills to help people and organizations write speeches, create website content, develop podcast scripts, and invent group-devised, original pieces.
Acting has been at the core of everything that I do. I started acting when I was 6 years old and it was just something that I always did. I studied at NYU's Experimental Theater Wing and it expanded my work and my creative vision. After graduation, I performed with STAR Theater, educating young people about sexuality and HIV/AIDS at the peak of the AIDS epidemic. I went on to do regional theater and worked in commercials and voice-overs, but then directing (and parenting) took over my life. I still love to act when the opportunity arises.
During the pandemic, I pivoted to writing and producing podcasts for OffScrip Health. Some of the shows that I have worked on are "Is It Serious?" and "Caregiver Lifehacks: CLL Edition" and I am a co-host of the "Before We Die" podcast and "Lab Before Slab" mini-pod.

"Before We Die" follows the stories of the brave, audacious and stubbornly persistent, problem-solving gizmologists from the MedTech world. As the host, my role is to make sure that all of these very impressive podcast guests are using language that everyone can understand in order to provide access to the emerging technology that is geared toward saving and enhancing the lives of patients everywhere. bwdpod.com

I live in New York City where I raised two amazing children, Henry and Zadie, with my husband and actor, Craig Waletzko. I love my neighborhood and I'm very active in my community. I started a parent and baby yoga class, I read to students in the neighborhood school through the SAGAFTRA Book Pals program, I directed musicals in my kids' middle and high school. I also co-founded ABOVE THE BRIDGE, a playground for writers in Washington Heights and Inwood.
